.. somebody comes along. Last night, while hosting Open Mic at Gone Wired, I met the self-proclaimed “Toughest Musician in Lansing”. Performing as “Ace No Face”, this guy showed up in a wheelchair and explained that he has ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He brought with him a copy of his latest CD “Toxic Charm” and wanted to know if we could play a few cuts over the PA.

When his turn came up, I headed for the stage area to announce what we were going to do. To my surprise, I was followed by Ace. He wanted to introduce his songs. I introduced him and held the mic as he talked a bit about each song before we played it. The audience, small that night due to the weather and upcoming holiday - everybody out of town, loved it.

Ace has been battling ALS for 4.5 years, hence the “Toughest Musician in Lansing”.

Every now and then somebody comes along. Last night it was Ace No Face.

While working this morning, around 2AM, I hit the wall. I just couldn’t get this piece I was mixing to do what I wanted. I remember thinking, ” .. damn, iced again” meaning, of course, that I was stuck in place. So I walked away for a minute, fired up the keyboard and started decompressing. I ended up with this:

Choosing a title for this Blog-thing took about an hour. I tried the business name first but that didn’t work. Then I tried things like “Ikes View” and “Ikes Blog”. These seemd a little better, but still not right.

Then I tried “Ikes - Life and Lochabar”. Simple enough, let’s run with this for a while.
