Opening night at Gone Wired went well! Even on short notice, the old Tea House guys got word and we had non-stop music for 3 hours. Everybody sounded good. I spoke with the owner, Colleen, today and she’s already making plans to move some walls, change the lighting, and have a backdrop made for the stage area.

We decided to leave some counter space up past the renovation, making it easier for talent to sell merchandise (T-shirts, CD’s, etc.) at upcoming shows. Even so, we’ll gain 135 square feet for audience and performers.

A larger, permanent stage is in the works, too.

While working this morning, around 2AM, I hit the wall. I just couldn’t get this piece I was mixing to do what I wanted. I remember thinking, ” .. damn, iced again” meaning, of course, that I was stuck in place. So I walked away for a minute, fired up the keyboard and started decompressing. I ended up with this:

I said early on in this blog that I wouldn’t fly a lot of commercials. I have to put some stuff up here, Lochabar Sound is how I make my living. More than that, Lochabar Sound is what I do. Those of you who are in this business know exactly what I mean.

That being said, we just finished a demo for a Country duo that went really well. Got off to a rocky start, but finished really well. The best part of the whole project happened this morning when I got a genuine “Thank You” from one of the clients.

Imagine doing something you love to do and having someone thank you for doing it.

Great Stuff.

I’m looking around and seeing perfectly good equipment here that I just don’t use anymore for whatever reason; a ProjectMix IO, for example. Because I now mix in Pro Tools LE (I needed the video capabilities), I have this Pro Tools M-Powered gear just taking up space.

It’s kinda sad and I’m pissed at Digidesign and M-Audio for not finding a way to share. Anyway, I have to give it up. I’d rather see someone getting some use out of it than have it sit here doing nothing.

So, M-Audio ProjectMix IO for sale (Includes Pro Tools M-Powered):  $700.

I am the original owner and I used this gear at the Small Planet for all the recording I did there. It never let me down.

This site exists because of my business, Lochabar Sound. Because I already have a regular business website, I don’t intend to fly a lot of commercials here.

I think, instead, I’m going to talk about some of the things that go through my mind as I work, make decisions, and meet people.

I love what I do. I don’t believe someone could do this for very long without a love for it. It’s demanding, challenging, creative, and very rewarding. If it’s not all four of those things every day, it’s at least one .. every day.

Choosing a title for this Blog-thing took about an hour. I tried the business name first but that didn’t work. Then I tried things like “Ikes View” and “Ikes Blog”. These seemd a little better, but still not right.

Then I tried “Ikes - Life and Lochabar”. Simple enough, let’s run with this for a while.
