Pickin’ Parlor

Tim and Roberta Little are bringing thier “Pickin Parlor” to the Gone Wired Cafe`. This is a popular acoustic / Bluegrass  jam that Lochabar had the good fortune to run sound for at Magdalena’s Tea House. If you’ve been to one of these, we know we’ll be seeing you again. If you haven’t, and you like old-style Country or Bluegrass music, come on down. We’re pretty sure you’re gonna like this.

The Pickin Parlor runs 7:30 to 11:00PM on the 2nd Monday of each month starting October 12th, 2009.

Line-up

Well, our third act just signed on so we have an official line-up now for the Aug 27th show at Gone Wired (http://gonewiredcafe.net/). So different being the one deciding who plays, who opens, etc. Anyway, I’m looking forward to this. Frances Marie Bennigan, Ryan Knott, and Justin Richard Band in one night outta be pretty good.

“Iced Again” Digital Release

Trying out a new digital distribution service, ReverbNation. “Iced Again” should hit iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon, etc. sometime in September. http://www.reverbnation.com/tunepak/1654763

Break out the pop-up!

We stood on the plaza in front of the Mariott Hotel in downtown East Lansing watching the clouds. Checking weather reports and making phone calls (Is it raining where you’re at?), we blinked and wiped stray drops away. The breeze turned to wind and suddenly died off in that classic “lull before the storm”. We figured we were pretty close to done by this time, even while we assured each other that this would pass.

Then Jessica Howe, a graphic arts grad from MSU interning with the City of East Lansing, shows up with a great attitude and a pop-up tent. Still watching the clouds we got the tent up, signs got placed, equipment made its way to the stage, and people armed with lawn chairs, umbrellas, and blankets started arriving. “You guys playing in this tonite?!”

The show went on. Actually only one of us, Ryan Knott, was ‘playing’. I’m the sound guy and I was there to record his show at the East Lansing Summer Concert Series that night. The threatened rain never showed, other than a few sprinkles, and the crowd that came out was glad they took the chance. Me too. I hope to be back next year with my own tent.

Satin Pie

Had a good time recording Ryan Knott and his band Satin Jones, along with openers Jimmy Likes Pie,  at the Small Planet Saturday night. Two fun bands that, together, got the crowd going early and kept them there all night. Bonus: Instead of someone yelling “Freebird!” all night, we heard ”We love you, Ryan!”

Upcoming Stuff

I’ve spoken with a few local performers recently about appearing as ‘Featured Acts’ at the Gone Wired and response has been positive. This is especially important as Lansing has lost a few venues recently (victims of the Great Recession, Act II). As we get closer to actual dates, opening acts, etc., I’ll be posting.

Every Now and Then ..

.. somebody comes along. Last night, while hosting Open Mic at Gone Wired, I met the self-proclaimed “Toughest Musician in Lansing”. Performing as “Ace No Face”, this guy showed up in a wheelchair and explained that he has ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He brought with him a copy of his latest CD “Toxic Charm” and wanted to know if we could play a few cuts over the PA.

When his turn came up, I headed for the stage area to announce what we were going to do. To my surprise, I was followed by Ace. He wanted to introduce his songs. I introduced him and held the mic as he talked a bit about each song before we played it. The audience, small that night due to the weather and upcoming holiday - everybody out of town, loved it.

Ace has been battling ALS for 4.5 years, hence the “Toughest Musician in Lansing”.

Every now and then somebody comes along. Last night it was Ace No Face.
