Sweet ‘N Sassy

Sweet ‘N Sassy
Ran this show at P2 (Old Town, Lansing MI) yesterday. This show was GOOD! I can’t single out a performance because each of these ladies brought something special to the stage. I will quote one of them, however, referring to band leader Elden Kelly as “The genius over there in the purple shirt”. Lynn and Ann, owners at P2, once again did a great job.

Claudia Schmidt & Her Funtet
Sunday, March 27th, 3pm

A performance by Michigan native Claudia Schmidt and her Funtet continues the new music series “Live at P2 ” which showcases dynamic performances in Jazz, world music, blues and more right in the heart of Old Town Lansing!

Claudia was just named “Best Solo Female Artist” at the WYCE music awards in Grand Rapids. She has toured across North America and Europe’s intimate clubs, theaters, and festival stages with 25,000 rapt listeners. She is familiar with the mediums of radio and TV, including regular stints on Public Radio International’s “A Prairie Home Companion ” in its early incarnation. Garrison Keillor said, “When Claudia sings a song, it stays sung.”

She has recorded fourteen albums exploring folk, blues, and jazz idioms. While Claudia’s musical roots have been in the folk genre, she continues to explore her love of Jazz by way of her musical partnership with Funtet which includes Don Julin on mandolin, Ron Getz on guitars, Jack Dryden on bass and Randy Marsh on drums and harmonica.

Her live performances are not to be missed! Her musicality is astonishing. Her joy and love of performing are contagious. She can weave the elements of music and stage into a program so unified and full of life that one critic has described a Claudia Schmidt concert as “… a lot like falling in love. ”
